Well, this story is based off my RPG, Eternal Fire, so I guess it's sort of an...original fanfiction, of sorts. But since it is my RP, I'm treating it as an original story. Heh.
So, now here's a little information for those who might read this who don't play at EF and thus don't know the backstory.
An Adept is a low-level diety, able to perfom 'magic'. Kiles' gifting lies in the manipulation of nature and of weather.
A Seeker is a believer in the Great Eternals. Great Eternals are like Adepts, only infinately more powerful. There are only six of them and they have not been seen in the mortal lands for many, many, many years.
The Mountain Sanctuary is the home of the Seekers.
I...think that's it. If you'd really like to know more about the backstory of all this, you can check out the Eternal Fire encyclopedia.
I may or may not write another one of these, although I am working on a story with two other characters from EF but I'm kinda stuck. Heh. Anyway, more stories about Idae and Kiles all depend on my brain and its undependable inspiration.
Now, enough of my rambling. On to the fic!
Title: Frozen Dreams
Author: Lhinneill
Summary: I feel something has happened to her.
Length: 345 words
Category: General
Brilliant stars glimmered above the Mountain Sanctuary and the pale face of the moon had just peered over the towering peaks, illuminating the snow-dusted treetops. But for the young Seeker standing alone on the high balcony, the beauty somehow was lost. Deep in thought, Idae Renno barely even noticed the chill in the air.
"Kiles?" he called, knowing the Adept would be nearby.
The soft sound of claws clicking on the hard stone floor reached his ears, and a moment later, Kiles appeared through the doorway. Continuing onto the balcony, he stopped beside Idae, then fixed the young Seeker in his solemn amber gaze. Without thinking, Idae dropped a hand to rest in Kiles' thick mane. "Do you think she's okay, Kiles?"
"That, my young friend, is a question I cannot answer," Kiles replied softly.
"I know," Idae sighed. "Only... I feel something has happened to her."
"Idae," Kiles began, looking away from his friend to the twinkling sky. "Though I never met your sister, the stories you have told of her make me believe she can care for herself."
Idae nodded slowly, briefly glancing at his friend before averting his gaze back to the stars. "I still worry for her, Kiles. Months have passed since the Elders sent her away, and yet we have heard nothing."
"I know, Idae. I know," Kiles soothed.
They stood in silence for several long minutes before an icy wind whipped across the exposed balcony. Idae shivered, finally feeling the cold. Sighing, he took one last look at the sky before quietly turning to go inside. He stopped beneath the stone arch, his thoughts still filled with concern for his sister, Aaralyn. Then, to his immense surprise, he felt a warm breeze brush his face and looked back. Kiles hadn't moved from the railing, though he now gazed over his shoulder at Idae, starlight twinkling clearly in his eyes and the smallest of lion smiles on his face. Shaking his head, Idae rejoined his friend at the railing, his hand moving to the lion's mane again.
"Thank you, Kiles."

I love the obvious bond of friendship between Kiles and Idae. And I love how their dynamic is totally different from Ed and Duric and yet there are elements of the same thing. *wonders if that makes sense*
